Test, poll and diagnose Modbus devices on one screen.

Busscope speaks Modbus TCP, Modbus/TCP Security (TLS), RTU and ASCII, with poll windows, live charts, diagnostics, a request runner and a register probe.

Current version 0.1.0. No license key needed to evaluate.

  • 4transports: TCP, TLS, RTU, ASCII
  • 12display formats in 4 byte orders
  • ∞poll windows on one connection
  • Livecharts, traffic view and logging

Features

What the Modbus tester does

Register poller windows

Open any number of poll windows that share one connection. Add value labels such as 1=Running and name cells, including pasting names from Excel.

  • One connection, as many windows as you need
  • Names appear in charts, log headers and print
  • Per-cell colors, fonts and conditional rules

Live charts

Each poll window has its own live chart. Cell names appear in charts, log headers and print.

  • One chart per poll window, fed by the live values
  • Log the same values to CSV or Excel (.xlsx)
  • Print preview of any window

Diagnostics and Request Runner

Functions 07, 08 (all sub-functions), 11, 17 and 43/14 in a dedicated diagnostics window. The Request Runner sends scripted requests and checks the answer against what you expect.

  • Expectations: OK, EX n, TIMEOUT, RESP hex
  • Save and load request lists as JSON
  • Read the frames on the wire in the traffic view

And the details that save time

Display formats

12 display formats with 4 byte and word orders, set per cell, per selection or for a whole window.

Cell names and value labels

Name any cell, paste names from Excel, and turn raw values into words such as 1=Running.

Cell colors and fonts

Fixed colors per address plus two conditional rules (= > < >= <= and) evaluated on the live value. Fonts per address. All saved in the workspace.

Write dialog

Functions 05, 06, 15, 16, 22 and 23 from the write dialog, with a confirmation before anything is sent. Writing to equipment is your responsibility, as the EULA spells out.

Register Probe

Finds readable and illegal address ranges on a device.

Logging, print, workspaces

Log to CSV or Excel (.xlsx), print preview of any window, and save everything (connection, windows, formats, names, charts, auto-connect) as a .bsw workspace.

Supported protocols: Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU and TLS

  • Modbus TCP
  • Modbus/TCP Security (TLS)
  • Modbus RTU
  • Modbus ASCII

Modbus/TCP Security uses TLS 1.2 or newer with mutual authentication and the ALPN identifier mbap-tls. For serial lines, Busscope offers RS-485 echo removal and RTS toggle.

Function codes: 01-06, 15, 16, 22, 23 (read and write), and 07, 08, 11, 17, 43/14 (diagnostics).
